It all started back on 17 September 2010, when we attended our very first wedding and saw a photo booth set up right next to the dance floor.
We instantly loved the idea. Being able to take photos with friends and family and walk away with printed memories felt special. In a digital world where we take thousands of photos but rarely print them, that physical keepsake really stood out.
I still remember walking back to the car at the end of the night and saying to my partner, “That would be a great business, how hard could it be?” Looking back now, that was the beginning of what would become photobooths, the perfect side hustle for us.
From Idea to Opportunity
At the time, we were both in stable, well-paying jobs, paying off a mortgage, and living comfortably. Starting a business was not something we had seriously considered.
It wasn’t until I went on maternity leave with my first child that everything shifted.
The thought of returning to full-time work, commuting to the city, and spending long days away from home made me rethink everything. I wanted something more flexible, something that allowed me to be present for my son while still contributing financially.
That’s when the idea of photobooths as the perfect side hustle came back.
Where We Are Today
Fast forward to today, and more than a decade later, we now run multiple photo booth businesses.
From photo booth hire across Melbourne to supplying booths and photobooth products, the journey has grown far beyond what we originally imagined.
Most importantly, it has given us exactly what we were looking for from the beginning, flexibility.
Being able to work from home, take the kids to school, pick them up, and be present for their activities has been invaluable. In the early stages, we were able to run the business alongside our full-time jobs, as most events take place in the evenings and on weekends.
Over time, photobooths truly became the perfect side hustle that evolved into a full-time business.
